South Korea lifts ban on Philippine Poultry and Pet Birds

South Korea lifted the ban on the import of Philippine poultry products and pet birds as Philippine’s free status of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been approved on July 4, 2019. The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), in close coordination with the Philippine Agriculture Office in Seoul, accomplished the submission of requirements to lift the temporary suspension. The Korean government, through the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) prohibited the import of Philippine poultry and pet birds on August 12, 2017 under “Import Sanitary Condition of Philippine chicken (MAFRA Notification)” and “Import Sanitary Condition of Birds except Poultry (MAFRA Notification)” in accordance with H5 AI outbreak in the Philippines in 2017. ### (Pia Martinez)
